Poppies Through the Generations: Remembering in New Ways, Honouring Forever

From recycled coffee cups to thousands of handmade poppies, Remembrance continues to evolve while keeping its message alive. Across our local communities, creative displays bring generations together to honour those who served and sacrificed. We Will Remember Them.
Poppies Through the Generations: Remembering in New Ways, Honouring Forever

Far from fading with the passing years, the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal continues to inspire wonderful new ways of remembering those who served and sacrificed.

Even the poppy itself has evolved! In 2023, the Royal British Legion introduced a plastic free poppy made entirely from paper, with 50% of its fibres recovered from waste produced during coffee cup manufacturing!

And just look at how our communities embrace Remembrance today!

From last year’s incredible 110,000 knitted and crocheted poppies on Southend Pier to our own growing displays in Thundersley, Hockley, Rayleigh, Tarpots and Hadleigh.

Wonderful creations like these (pictured), generously donated by Jan Pryke for Hockley Remembers, alongside public buildings glowing red for Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday.

Different generations, different displays, but one shared message. 🌺 We Will Remember Them. 🌺
