“The earth has yielded its harvest; God, our God, has blessed us.” — Psalm 67:6 🌾⛪
Quite an appropriate verse when you see St Mary’s Church surrounded by the beautiful golden fields of Hawkwell. Did you know parts of this little church in Rectory Road date all the way back to the 14th century? For around 600 years it has quietly watched Hawkwell life change around it.
Its distinctive weatherboarded wooden bell turret and shingled spire are thought to date from the 1400s when the surrounding Hawkwell would have looked very different indeed, just a tiny rural Essex community surrounded by farmland. 🚜✝️
