WE NEED KNITTERS!
Hockley Remembrance Poppy Display
Calling all Hockley Knitters or Crocheters! We would really appreciate your help in creating knitted or crochet poppies for our public display in Spa Road for the ‘Hockley Remembers’ Armistice Day & Remembrance Sunday.
Last year you generously made 100’s of poppies which we have carefully stored and cleaned ready to go back up in November but we would love to cover even more of the railings this time.
You can use any poppy pattern you like but this is one we found on-line.
Cast on 60 sts using 4mm needles and DK red yarn.
Rows 1-8 (K2, P2) to end.
Row 9 (K2tog) to end. [30 sts]
Row 10 (S2kpo) to end. [10 sts]
Break off yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining 10 sts and pull tight, then fasten off yarn.
Join the edges of the poppy together and sew the black button in the centre of the poppy.
Specific abbreviation: Sk2po – slip one knit wise, K2tog, pass slipped stitch over.
If you are feeling creative and can help please drop your completed poppies into our Amos Estates office at 1A Spa Road, Hockley. If you prefer, we can collect from you at home.
